Once Upon A Time -

Little Red went out to meet Grandma for a pint. In her basket was a 6-pack, a bouquet of flowers, the Rhineland Pack Axe her grandma had given her, and some sausages and cheese. An earlier encounter with a wolf had left Grandma convinced that her lovely granddaughter needed to be packing some protection whenever she ventured out…

While on her stroll Little Red heard footsteps and at an opportune moment turned to see a wolf approaching. He was eerily similar to one who had previously deceived, and then barbarously, consumed her and her grandmother, only to be dealt a harsh blow of instant karma from a hunter with good timing.

Feigning kindness and innocence the wolf engaged Little Red in casual conversation. Acting suspiciously surprised in learning of her intentions, he said he too loved craft beverages, was carrying a special selection from his cellar, and asked if she would like to share pints.

Highly skeptical, but not wanting to be rude, she suggested the wolf accompany her to her grandma’s and there they could all have a taste. Oblivious to Little Red’s newfound wisdom (and weaponry), and thinking his afternoon meal had just doubled in size, the wolf quickly agreed.

Little Red’s grandma was a little surprised when she approached her cabin with a wolf alongside her. But upon hearing her story and exchanging some very telling eye contact, the elder lady quickly understood. As the pints were poured each raised their glasses for a toast, and as the first drops hit the wolf’s mouth, Little Red swung with her free hand, and his neck was swiftly separated from his body.

With a smile and squint rife with awe, excitement, and confusion, Grandma was clearly in search of an explanation. Little Red’s response left the old lady’s face overflowing with pride.

The wise-beyond-her-years young lady in red shared the following: “Grandma, I was pretty sure he had bad intentions but I wasn’t sure and I wasn’t comfortable trying to take him out in the woods. Once I saw him pouring a mass-produced yellow beer I knew he was full it. And besides, who the hell offers a beer to a child?!”

With that grandma raised her glass of delicious Dusseldorf Altbier to Little Red’s pint of root beer, and the two had a wonderful picnic.

The Moral:
Don’t talk to strangers… but if you must, make sure you’re armed with good beer and a sharp tool.
